Uses of the Period

The word period can be scary sometimes. A writer may cringe at the sound alone. Having to place periods in our essay's can be a struggle. A lot of times we just like to talk so much that we forget we haven't taken a breath for three whole minutes. After rereading my essay about a million times, I finally got sick of not breathing. Placing the period in the right place can be hard, but with a little help this link can help you.

Revisions are Amazing

To say the least, my short story was shredded to pieces right in front of me. Okay, maybe not, but it sounded good. Well, peer reading was fantastic, and I received some fabulous information on how I could better my writing skills. I was given counseling if you will that I shouldn't start two sentences with the same word. Wow, that's so true. So I have taken the liberty of fixing all of my stories, here is one example.

R. Kelly "I believe i can fly"
The time had finally come, the anticipation was numbing my senses. As I crept to the weathered wood that represented the line. I inhaled a deep breath, and with all the power that my scrawny legs could provide I leaped into the air. As I soared through the air I felt a slight chance that my name would be on that lady's clip board for having won the contest. While i was soaring above the ground, I found myself encompassed in spirit. As I landed on the feathered sand, I felt a sense of accomplishment run through my veins. As I rested in the warm sand, I quickly looked up to see the judge. The expression on the the judges face was word alone. She looked at me in a saddened face. She silently said to me, "Brandon your effort was well noted, but I'm sorry, you will not pass on to the finals."

Here are the perfections I made/revisions

Queen
Bicycle

As I arose from my sleep I quickly ran upstairs as fast as a cheetah might have. For I had finally made it, it was Friday the 13th the day of my birthday. Over the week I was tortured with anticipation. The thought of me upon a brand new bicycle was killing me. My Grandma had made me a promise saying, "Brandon, if you are a good boy to your mom and dad I'll get you a bike." That alone was enough to make a young boy leap up with joy, before running upstairs I didn't take the liberty in getting dressed, for what was waiting for me was too much to handle or take in. As i arrived to my final destination , my eyes must have seemed to glitter for excitement. There it was gleaming from the fluorescent lamp next to it. It still had the smell of new rubber tires. The yellow paint seemed yell out to me, it's color was so vibrant. The whole entire day was feeled with gleam as I rode my new yellow bike up and down the black paved street.

commas

I find myself often times throwing in commas just for fun. I never know when to use them properly, and rarely place them in the right place. Something I learned is that using commas in the wrong places can break a sentence into illogical segments or confuse readers with unnecessary and unexpected pauses. to learn more click here

Apostrophes

Apostrophes are really not that simple to me. Using the apostrophe at the right time to show possession can be difficult. For example, to show plural possession, you have to make the noun plural first. Then immediately use the apostrophe, such as two actresses' hats not two actress's hats. Norrowing out plural and singular can help most anyone with knowing when to place an apostrophe or not. click here to read more.

Dooms Day

You would think that an guardian angel would be over a boy at the age of 13, at all times. Well this particular day was one of those exceptions. As school let out there was a roar amongst my friends as to, who would be the first to knock down the dirt cliff with rocks. Well lets just say at this age your aren't the sharpest tool in the shed. As the boys and I were throwing rocks at this cliff that was just in front of us, I thought to myself, "if i can just stand off to the side, then when the cliff were to break, I would be able to get out of harms way."

Well, the part off the cliff that was about to burst and fall upon us was actually a whole lot bigger than I had realized. As I bent down to choose a light weight rock, I suddenly found myself encompassed in dirt up to my neck. As I squirmed to wiggle myself free, I found it too overpowering, I was stuck. As help arrived I was quickly rushed to the ER room in the hospital. Finding myself alone with the doctor, he kindly said to me, "Brandon, it looks like your femur has been broken in seven places." What would a thirteen year old say to that? Cool? Huh? After the surgery and six months of excruciating pain, the pain had vanished. My small decision to throw rocks at a cliff, would have to rate right up there with things not to do.
